THE DAIRY CENTER FOR THE ARTS -
THE BOEDECKER THEATER
The Dairy Center for the Arts, a non-profit community arts center is housed in a 42,000 square-foot former dairy building in the heart of Boulder. Over the years, SSA has served as architect of The Dairy turning this building into the city’s largest multi-disciplinary arts facility, where over 150,000 community members annually enjoy more than 35,000 lessons, classes and performances. The Dairy is recognized as a national model for facilitating cooperative relations among arts organizations and for its adaptive re-use of a vacant industrial building. The re-use and renovations to date include two black-box theaters, a 250-seat performance hall, art galleries, numerous art/dance/music studios, administrative offices, a large lobby and box office facilities.
Recently, a generous grant from The Boedecker Foundation provided funding for the design and construction of an intimate, 60-seat state-of-the-art cinema theater, lobby space, concessions, catering kitchen and restrooms. The theater space will host independent arts-style movies and be used for performance and lecture presentations. Construction of the cinema phase was completed in February , 2011.
