SSA's DESIGN PRINCIPLES

The process of designing a new home can be a rewarding experience and a way for owners to express their values and style. Our firm keeps the following design principles in mind as we take our client’s dreams and goals and combine them with the opportunities and challenges of the site to create an unique solution.

Sense of Place

We strive to create accommodating and comfortable environments for observing nature, entertaining, working and living. Lasting, well-designed architecture that seeks harmony with its surroundings and is tailored to our client’s needs will have a unique “sense of place” and provide continual, unexpected delights.

Connection to the Site

Establishing the relationship between architecture and its site is fundamental to our work. Whether celebrating a breathtaking view or creating intimate spaces in a quiet, secluded courtyard, we work diligently to link the architecture to the unique and special qualities of the land. This anchoring promotes the visual, physical and spiritual connections
between interior and exterior, man and nature.

Climate Responsive Architecture

Whether providing relief from the Colorado summer sun or sanctuary from the cold winter, climate responsive design supports well-being and comfortable living. SSA endeavors to create integrated environments - to achieve effective ventilation, cooling and heating - to optimize building thermal performance at minimum energy cost.

Materials

Thoughtful choice of materials and attention to
detail can “root” a project to the history, character and traditions of its location in appropriate and inventive ways. Robust walls of native stone, sheltering roofs of warm clay tile or standing seam metal and locally milled hardwood floors can give texture and timelessness to a design.

Sustainable Design

SSA is passionately committed to pursuing sustainable design solutions. We integrate energy efficient design technologies into all of the homes that we design with the goal of dramatically reducing energy usage. We strive to specify responsible materials and design to avoid potential health hazards such as radon, mold and poor indoor air quality.
